If Meme were an 80s movie released on VHS, I’d like to think the box would look something like this. As it stands now if you back us on Kickstarter, one of our exciting rewards is a VHS copy of the movie!!!
“I met Sarah for the first time while seeking someone for the role of Jennifer in an earlier iteration of the screenplay. At that point Jennifer actually wasn’t the main character but I was looking for a strong actress to help realize her on screen. We hit it off immediately and I chose her for the role on the spot. As progress on the script continued it became increasingly clear that the biggest problem with the script was that the main character (who later became Tommy in the film) wasn’t particularly compelling as the protagonist. Meanwhile, Jennifer grew in each revision into a more and more relatable and compelling character. And so, with Sarah already signed on to play Jennifer, and with every confidence that Jennifer would carry the plot in a more compelling manner and that Sarah was the only person I wanted to play Jennifer, I changed the script giving Jennifer the main action.
That was one of the best decisions I’ve made as a writer. Jennifer fit in perfectly and the shift fixed other problems I was trying to resolved in the screenplay. It just worked. “

Meme is a film about how we form and share ideas. The first feature film from writer/director Sean Mannion,Meme, is about Jennifer, a graphic designer who finds herself involved in the VHS trading underground and a television obsessed cult after seeking out the creator of a homemade tape she finds at a video trading meet-up. The film will be shooting in New York City in October and November of 2013 and is targeted at festivals. The filmmakers are currently seeking to raise $16,000 via the Kickstarter platform, the campaign ends October 9, 2013.

The dramatic reading of the OH SO critically acclaimed film ‘MONKEY BUSINESS’…
Let me give you some quick background on the video. A few weeks back I went prop hunting at Greenpoint Bargains in Brooklyn. It’s a thrift shop that is just chock full of weird and interesting stuff. Everything from bowling balls to VHS camcorders. I was looking for VCRs, preferably working ones. While I was looking in a little nook of the store I saw a plastic tub full of what looked like VHS tapes. I reached down and grabbed it and yes, it was a plastic tub full of VHS tapes. Specifically, it was a plastic tub full of VHS porn released between 1983 and 1990. I had to get them. Where else was I going to find something like this. I showed the box to actresses Sarah Schoofs and Lauren A. Kennedy and they came up with the idea that for promo videos the actors for Meme should do dramatic readings of the VHS box text. And that’s what we’re doing.

TRUANT ARTS – CHAOS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!
“Chaos Under Construction is our biggest project to date, giving over 30 artists the opportunity to collaborate over six months, and build work that they can be proud of and that you will enjoy. Writers, directors, and actors started working together in March to build five brand new plays (four one-acts and one full-length play). Visual artists are designing posters (that you can get your hands on). Lighting designers will complete theatrical visions. A couple stage managers will corral them all.”

And finally, NAKED HOLIDAYS 2013 is officially cast! The first workshop to build this juggernaut of a show from scratch is FRIDAY!!! The cast is ridiculously talented and we will be performing at THE CUTTING ROOM this year!!!

Schoofs as Lily was great in her attempts to keep her family together in the face of something she doesn’t even really know is going on, Wilder has a great range as Dan from nerdy movie guy to way-too-confident for his own good to completely lost, and Vail is completely believable during his descent brought on by the things he has seen.”
